about

Sob Story features dreamy steel pedal guitar, and a dark chorus with Alice in Chains style vocal harmonies. The song first sprang to life after a 3 day-wide-awake 'speed binge' on a boat off the San Diego coast. The four of us and two dogs piled into the orange Volkswagen van, and at early dawn crossed the border into Mexico. A few hours into desert driving Steve our driver decided he needed to sleep, and pulled over. Everyone slept but I couldn't. Middle of nowhere; desert, cactus, dust; drug-hungover, hot, and sleep deprived. Wrote this song then and there.

lyrics

Standing by the river on the side of this road
Feelin' a long way from home
Swimmin' in this ocean inside of head and I
Feel like I'm drownin'
I feel like I'm drownin'

Hangin' out on the corner with my only friends
Me myself and my violin
Waiting for the rain to wash me away and then I'll
Watch all my colours fade to grey
I think I like it better this way

And I don't know why
I feel like cryin' cryin' and
I don't know why
Gotta keep on movin' movin'

Sinkin' to the bottom of this crazy sea and my
Heart feels heavy I can't breath
All my actions all my thoughts all my words
They're dragging' me down and I'm
Finding it harder and harder to stick around
I keep on runnin' from myself

And I don't know why I feel like cryin' crying
I don't know why my heart feels like
Breakin' breakin' breakin' breakin

I keep on runnin'
I keep on runnin'
But I can't run away from myself
