The word 'damn' at 1:25.

I wrote 'News' in 1993; one of the first poems to which I applied music. I was young and in a new city (Victoria BC), busking with my violin to earn a living, and meeting creative musicians and artists.

I don't care about that car crash
Couldn't care less about some woman who won 10 million dollars cash
The media is filling up our heads with a false sense of crisis
The media is pumping up our egos with a false sense of importance

I don't care about that plane crash
We all gotta go sometime and death ain't really that bad
But the media is controlling us by the strings of our emotions
The media is poisoning us with a fear laced potion

Why are we so damn tied up in this trivia?
Religion of half truths and one sided propaganda
The guy on your TV screen, he's got a Cheshire smile

In his smooth confidence he's just covering up the tracks
of a corrupt system (x2)

Are your children's eyes always glued to the TV screen?
Where violence is bleeding into their reality.
That TV screen is handing out hatred to its citizens.
So we're fighting one another, we don't have any time
to fight the system.
Keep watching television, avoid the ambition to think for yourself.

Think for yourself.
And I'll try thinking for myself.
